brianna = 1 month old

Since a little before midnight last night, Brianna is officially 1 month old!

Below is a video of her, right after she woke up in our house for the first time:

Although Silas has been very nice to Brianna lately, we don’t completely trust him with her yet, so we have to make ways to keep her safe when we’re not holding her. For example, when I’m downstairs, I sometimes put her in her little seat, which we call “the fluffy thing”, and I put the seat inside the playpen, so that Silas can’t touch her. The only thing he can do is throw things into the playpen, or shake the playpen. :D

Here’s what Brianna says when Silas is getting too close:

I’ll Be Home For Christmas

Yesterday we brought Brianna home from the hospital! It is so nice to have her here with us all the time!

Brianna in her crib at home for the first time. Her hat was falling off. :)

Instead of having Christmas with family this year, we just had our own Christmas at home.

I’ll put some Christmas pics in the gallery when I have time! Merry Christmas, everyone!

eating and sleeping

Briana is doing much better with feeding! She is drinking the required amount of milk a lot of the time now. It’s amazing how quickly she has started to eat better!

Here’s a pic of Brianna tonight, right before I left to come home:

fun adventures with Brianna

Brianna is now out of the incubator, and in a regular bassinet-type thing, as pictured below:

Since she is out of the incubator, I brought her some warm, cozy, fleecy sleepers to wear!

She fits perfect in newborn-size sleepers.

Brianna sleeping happily.

She still has an NG tube in her nose, which goes to her stomach. That is for feeding her when she doesn’t finish her 50cc’s of milk per 3 hours. Sometimes preemies tend to not eat as much as they should because they get tired faster. But Brianna has been continuously improving with her eating, which I am so happy about, because it means she is on her way to being able to come home soon!

I still have to get a pic of my Dad holding her.

family together

Today we went to visit Brianna, and I got to breastfeed her for the first time since before her surgery! She did really well! She still needs to improve a little on taking in food with her mouth (basically, she doesn’t drink the required amount at each feeding), so they are still supplementing by giving her my milk through her feeding tube.

She is so adorable and sweet! I can’t get enough of her! Brian got to hold her today too.

Below are some pictures from today:

bottle feeding & more updates

We have some good updates on Brianna! They are as follows:

- no more chest tubes (she used to have 2)
- no more blue lights blanket (jaundice is gone)
- no more IV or PICC line

The only thing Brianna is “attached” to right now is the NG tube, which goes in her nose. They are still using this for feeding.

Today I was able to see Brianna get her first bottle since the surgery. The nurse had to feed it to her this time because sometimes babies will get their swallowing and breathing mixed up at the beginning. Brianna drank 5cc’s of milk, and hopefully she will keep drinking more at each of her upcoming feedings.

Tomorrow I am going to start nursing Brianna. I hope it goes good!

Below are some pics of my visit with Brianna today:

Yummy!

Since she’s still quite small, they sit her up to drink.

Brian thinks she looks like a puppet with that burp cloth around her. :)

She’s such a little darling! We had a nice time talking and singing Christmas carols together.

eating and diapers

First of all, I’d just like to tell everyone that Brianna had the esophagus test yesterday, where they put dye into her esophagus to see whether it’s all closed up properly, and she passed the test!!! We are so thankful to the Lord for this, because it was a big step for her recovery.

So yesterday they started feeding her my milk through a tube. It’s the tube that goes through her nose, into her stomach (the one she pulled out herself a few days ago.) I’m so happy about this, because I felt so bad that she hadn’t eaten anything till now, although she was getting nutrients through her IV.

The other cool thing is that I got to change her diaper a couple days ago. :)

Our family.

The entrance to the Reinberger Family Center, which is a nice area in the hospital where families can hang out and relax. There is a nice livingroom area, a toy area, a kitchen, bathrooms, sleeping area, etc, and there are lots of fun things for kids to do.
