  1. v-day awesomeness

    February 14, 2011 by sholdren

    Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

We didn’t do much to celebrate Valentine’s Day today, but we had a fun day.

The kids opening their Valentine’s Day stuff from Opa & Omsie.

The ring Brian got me. Love it!

Silas made this Valentine for Brian and I, in Sunday School. The words were written by one of the Sunday School teachers, and instead of writing Mommy and Daddy, Silas told them to write our real names, and he told them what our full names were.

The kids helped me make this Valentine’s cake!

Brian also got me 4 different types of gummies (my favorite junk food), and I got him a “Ronald Reagen at 100” magazine, put out by LIFE.

That’s it for now! Happy V-day, all you love birds!

  2. silas’ 4th birthday

    January 18, 2011 by sholdren

We had a little birthday party for Silas yesterday, and we also had a little celebration on his real birthday, a few days ago. Here are some pics and video of it:

    Kids at Silas’ birthday party!

Silas cupcakes with the number 4 on them.

    The food!

    The streamers we put up!

The “Kirby’s Epic Yarn” cake I made for Silas, on his actual birthday.

We had a great time at Silas’ party yesterday! It is always fun having people over, and I think the kids had a fun time too!

  3. musical birthday

Happy New Year, everyone! Looking forward to all the adventures that await us in 2011!

Yesterday was my birthday, and I had a nice time with Brian and the kids. We went out a bit, hung out around the house, opened presents from family, and also got a bucket of “All Lovin’ No Oven” icecream from Coldstone Creamery. Here are some pictures of what I got from Brian and the kids:

Pretty tulips in a pot, a lovely card, and a bag of gummies – my favorite! I will try to keep the tulips alive so I can plant them in the spring.

Me with my new classical guitar from Brian and the kids! I played guitar a little before I got married, but not much. I really want to learn fingerpicking style, so I’m excited to get started on that!

The kids and I. Brianna loves the piano, as well as Silas, and Silas also loves the ukulele. I’ve given him one uke lesson so far, and it was about how to play the C chord.

I got some other awesome gifts from family, which I also really love!

    Happy New Year!

  4. christmas weekend

    December 27, 2010 by sholdren

Well, it is now the end of our Christmas weekend! Here’s how ours went:

Fri. Dec. 24 – Christmas Eve
Woke up, packed the presents, suitcase and food in the car. Barely got it all in. The trunk was stuffed, there was a suitcase between the kids, so they couldn’t even see each other, I barely had any foot room, and Brian was driving with a big bowl of poppycock on the floor, behind his legs. We had a lovely Christmas meal at Brian’s sister, Kim’s house, with other family and friends, and then opened all the presents! Brian, me, and the kids stayed overnight.

Sat. Dec. 25 – Christmas Day
Had a big Christmas feast at Kim’s house with family and friends, and the kids also played with some of their new toys. The food was delicious, by the way. Then packed everything up and drove home. Once home, the kids played around the house, and I set up my new Wii Fit Plus! We were all so busy playing and getting ready for church, that we forgot to have the kids open their stockings!

Sun. Dec. 26 – Boxing Day
The kids opened their stockings. Then we went to church! Came home, and the kids played and played with their new toys and games! Silas got some glow-in-the-dark stars in his stocking, so we put them up on his ceiling before he went to bed. He was thrilled!

Here are a few pictures of our weekend:

The kids having fun…Zackary trying to pull Brianna’s tights off!

Helping Brianna open her new medical kit.

Silas with his new Hexbug Nano Elevation Habitat Set, which he loves, and even I think it’s lots of fun!

Brian with his new computer repair tool he got from his parents.

This present was for Brianna, but Brian thought it said “Brian” on it, so this is his expression when he opened it and saw broccoli, cauliflower, and other plastic vegetables.

Silas with is new t-shirt from thinkgeek.com.

Brian with the t-shirt I got him!

Silas looking through his and Brianna’s pile of presents. The red arrow is pointing to his head.

Poor Rex doesn’t have a chance against Silas’ flashy new machine gun!

Silas’ demonstration on why Walking Rex and Nano Bugs don’t mix!

    Brian and Brock relaxing.

Brianna and Silas glancing at Brock, who has come to say hello.

Brianna and Silas shielding their faces from Puppy McLicky, who is very, very affectionate!

The back of our car, before leaving to come back home.

Brianna and Silas opening their stockings.

That’s it for now! I’m working on a video that will be comprised of small clips of most of the toys and games the kids got. It should be done in about a week.

    Merry Christmas, everyone!

  5. bizarre blizzard

    December 13, 2010 by sholdren

We had another big snowfall! Here are a few pics of it:

There was so much snow coming down, it made everything look white, and the visibility was pretty bad.

Brian shoveling a path down the driveway.

Brian, after shoveling. Poor guy, he was sick too.

The back sliding doors. We couldn’t even open the screen door.

So anyway, it is still snowing, so who knows how much deeper the snow will be in the morning!

    Good night for now!

  6. turkey day

    November 26, 2010 by sholdren

Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving with family and friends at our house. We also celebrated Brianna’s 2nd birthday!

We had a wonderful time, and all the food was fantastic! We all made different things from the menu. Every single dish was delicious!

The Thanksgiving table. The sliced bread is made by my sister-in-law, Kim, using her new bread maker. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pics of the table with all the food.

Silas with a big bowl of turkey broth I took from the roasting pan, ready to be made into gravy!

    The delicious, delicious turkey!

My “Zesty Festiva Cheez Whiz Ball”. Everyone loved it.

Here is us singing Happy Birthday to Brianna, and her singing a song too:

    Brianna’s birthday cupcakes.

Brianna with her giggling doll from Grandma & Grandpa. She likes it.

Brianna enjoying her new sandwich maker kit from Uncle Terrill & Tante Stephy, Esther, Heidi & Elliott.

Brianna with her “girl” sock monkey from Silas. Silas has a regular sock monkey, which he loves too.

A doll she got from Uncle Sam & Aunt Kimmy & the boys. You fill it with warm water, and it feels more like a real baby.

The kitchen we got Brianna. Both her and Silas love it, and will spend many hours playing with it, I’m sure.

The homemade caramel apples we gave out before everyone left. My sister gave me this recipe, and it’s awesome.

Brianna and Zachary in the car.

    Fun was had by all!

  7. wedding wowza!

    October 17, 2010 by sholdren

This weekend we were in Pennsylvania, attending the wedding of Matthew & Bethany Yovich, a couple that attend our church. It was such a beautiful wedding. The atmosphere was lovely, and the whole place looked amazing.

Here is a short video comprised of a few video clips I took while we were there:

The wedding party. I didn’t get a close-up of the bride and groom, but you can see them close up in the video.

Brianna and Silas at the reception. Brianna’s hair got a little frazzled due to lack of hairspray, a 2 hour drive in the car, and her getting a hold of a comb, and combing her french braid.

    The gorgeous head table.

Everyone got a green apple with an apple poem relating to marriage. I thought it was a very unique and sweet idea.

There were even goodie bags for the kids, and the contents were different for boys or girls. They all contained certain items for both boys and girls, but the boys’ goodie bags also contained army men, and the girls’ also contained a ring & necklace. Here’s Brianna looking at the ruby in her ring!

They put Y’s (for Yovich) on the doors to the sanctuary, and there was also a big Y on the wedding cake, which you can see in the video.

By the way, there was a guy named Steve from Indiana who was at the wedding, who had no idea who I was, and he said I reminded him of Lydia Swansen from Tennessee. Well, Lydia Swansen is my second cousin! Isn’t that interesting???

The wedding was a wonderful experience, and I’m so glad we went. I think Matthew & Bethany make a great couple!

I didn’t video much of Brian’s birthday, but here’s a little tiny video of it, for your enjoyment:

  9. birthday brigade

Last week was Brian’s birthday! We went out to eat at Brian’s favorite Mexican restaurant, El Campesino, and then came back home for birthday cake and present-opening.

Brian and Silas after blowing the candles out together. I let Silas pick the frosting color, so I had to make it purple!

    Brianna and I celebrating!

Silas helping Brian open his presents.

Brian with some of his presents from my parents. He loves visors, so they searched high and low for an “Alaska” one, while they were there on a cruise, and eventually found one!

    Brianna wearing Brian’s new visor!

A couple weeks ago, when I asked Silas what he wanted to get Brian for his birthday, he said “a lion toy”. So, that’s exactly what Silas got him! I love Silas’ wide-eyed expression whilst looking at the lion.

Brian and Silas playing with the party blowers! Silas is about to laugh in this picture. 🙂

    Yay for fun family times!

  10. diy wii repair

    September 10, 2010 by sholdren

Over a year ago, our Wii suddenly stopped being able to read discs. I pressed the eject button and a little piece of cardboard came out of it. I wonder where that came from? Anyway, it still did not work. We were planning on eventually getting it fixed, but we never did until now.

    Our choices were:

    1) Send it in to Nintendo for repairs. Price: $75.00 plus taxes and shipping.

    2) Buy a new Wii. Price: about $200 or $130 for a refurbished one.

    3) Buy a tri-wing screwdriver and fix it ourselves. Price: $6.00 including taxes and shipping.

We decided to try fixing it first, and if that didn’t work, we would just buy a new one. So we bought the tri-wing screwdriver, and then also ended up needing a smaller phillips screwdriver, so it cost us about $12.50 total.

And it worked! Brian used some instructions he found on YouTube, and managed to disassemble and reassemble the Wii. Inside it we found…

An American nickel, a Canadian nickel, and a bobby pin! The bobby pin was magnetically attached to the laser eye of the disc drive, which was preventing it from reading discs.

Since removing these items and reassembling the Wii, it now works as good as new!

So, by fixing the Wii ourselves, we saved somewhere between $75.00 and $185.00!
