  1. independence day

    July 5, 2010 by sholdren

For July 4th this year, we had a little cookout at our house, after which we relaxed outside while Silas played in the little pool, and then we all played a game of Scattergories.

Unfortunately I forgot to take many pictures!

The cupcakes I made, in honor of Canada Day and Independence Day. I even made one in honor of Obama! Am I hip or what?

    The inside of the cupcakes.

Brianna after eating a cupcake with blue frosting!

Setting up the little pool for the kids.

We had a fun July 4th, and today, July 5th, will also be fun, because Brian is off! We have a few things we plan on doing with the kids. Should be a blast!

  2. terrific times

    May 28, 2010 by sholdren

Here are a few more pics from last week, when my parents and sister Stephanie and her kids, stayed at my house:

Elliott and Silas in the bike trailer. I pulled them around a little bit, as well as Heidi and Esther. They thought it was really fun. Esther said she’d want to go for an hour long ride in it.

    Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad

We took the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for a 2 hour trip. It was a fun experience, and the girls really wanted to go on because it reminds them of Little House on the Prairie. They even wore the bonnets they got from Hale Farm & Village.

    Enjoying the ride!

Our train car was practically empty, so we could pick and choose seats, so when we ate lunch, we all moved to seats with tables. Here’s Mom and Dad eating lunch. The food was excellent, by the way.

Silas watching a train passing the other way.

    Crying Party

On the last day of our family get togethers, we usually have a “crying party”. This time we even had a special cake for it!

Esther and Heidi getting ready for the party.

Looking forward to our next trip!

  3. chocolate hazelnut pie

    May 25, 2010 by sholdren

I recently made a new recipe for the first time, called Chocolate Hazelnut Pie. This is a very easy recipe to make, and this time I got several reviews! Enjoy!

  4. terrific tiramisu

    April 17, 2010 by sholdren

I recently made a video on how to make Terrific Tiramisu. It turned out really good!

The main problem I encountered was that when I beat the mascarpone cheese, it didn’t get really smooth, but had a bit of a texture to it. Other than that, it went great, and tasted awesome. I also filmed this late in the evening, so the lighting wasn’t great. Next time I’ll try to make the lighting better while filming when it’s dark out.

  5. zuppa toscana

    March 18, 2010 by sholdren

I recently made Zuppa Toscana, the soup you can get at Olive Garden. It was sooooo yummy! Here’s a video I put together so you can see how it’s made:

  6. date night

    March 8, 2010 by sholdren

One thing Brian and I never do, that a lot of parents with young kids do, is occasionally go out on dates together! So, we decided to start. We’re gonna try to go out once a month. Any more than that is difficult because we don’t have any babysitters close by.

About a week ago, we dropped the kids off at Brian’s parents’ house and went out to a restaurant called Jake’s. It was a very nice place!

Brian’s BBQ chicken burger and fries. The fries were incredible!

My Philly steak with portabello mushroom ciabatta wrap with chipotle ranch sauce. It was excellent!

Brianna sleeping on Grandma’s lap. She was like this when we got back from our date.

Brianna ate almost a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger while we were gone. No wonder she was snoozing!

  7. guacamole perfecto!

    February 11, 2010 by sholdren

Last week, I made a guacamole recipe I got from my sister-in-law, Natasha. It was amazing! I videoed it so you can see how it’s made.

    Hope you like it!

  8. video-editing fun!

    January 19, 2010 by sholdren

I used my new video-editing software to put together a little video from our Christmas trip to Edmonton. I took so much video while there, so I decided to split it up into separate categories. This first video features some of the food we made and ate at Mom and Dad’s house.

    Hope you enjoy it!

  9. Thanksgiving Birthday Party

    November 27, 2009 by sholdren

Today is Brianna’s 1st birthday! Happy Birthday, Brianna!!!

Yesterday, we had Thanksgiving at our house, and also had a little party for Brianna. We had over Brian’s parents and Sam & Kim & the boys. I’ll post a bunch of pics on Facebook later, but here are a few for now:

Brianna with her first birthday cake! It was confetti cake with cream cheese frosting.

All 11 of us gathered around the Thanksgiving table. We had dinner buffet-style because there was hardly any room for food on the table.

At the end of dinner, Silas entertained us with some lovely playing and singing.

    My homemade caramel apples!

Brianna opening her presents. She got so many nice things! Thank you, everyone!

The birthday girl fell asleep in my lap. She even dropped her little baby biscuit she was eating. Here she’s wearing her new Robeez shoes from my Mom. I think they’re adorable.

Silas looking at the Christmas tree after everyone left. He’s really into Christmas and snow right now.

Silas and Brianna getting ready for bed! Nighty-night!

  10. arkansas pics

    November 22, 2009 by sholdren

Here are a few of my pics from my Arkansas trip. I still have to get my Dad’s and sister’s pics, so after I do, I’ll probably make an official album, but for now, here are a few of mine:

The kids around the table while making a gingerbread house. From left to right: Elliott, Silas, Brianna, Esther and Heidi.

    The gingerbread house.

Silas and Elliott in their new warm winter hats from Omsie. Silas loves his. 🙂

Us girls went to a Christmas craft sale called “Lil’ Bit of Christmas” while my Dad babysat the boys. Here’s Steph, Brianna, Mom, Esther and Heidi.

Brianna and I at a Christmas wreath stand.

Esther playing with Brianna and a moose puppet.

Steph has 3 dogs this size that live around her house, so it really helped Silas get over his fear of dogs, although he’s still cautious around them.

Heidi playing either a Hello Kitty or Strawberry Shortcake game with Silas.

Uncle Terrill showing Silas and Elliott a photo album with tractors in it.

Heidi stirring the beans for Terrill & Steph’s new company, Big Mouth Barbecue!

Esther stirring the caramel for the caramel apples!

Us eating our homemade caramel apples. They are the best!
