  1. musical birthday

    January 2, 2011 by sholdren

Happy New Year, everyone! Looking forward to all the adventures that await us in 2011!

Yesterday was my birthday, and I had a nice time with Brian and the kids. We went out a bit, hung out around the house, opened presents from family, and also got a bucket of “All Lovin’ No Oven” icecream from Coldstone Creamery. Here are some pictures of what I got from Brian and the kids:

Pretty tulips in a pot, a lovely card, and a bag of gummies – my favorite! I will try to keep the tulips alive so I can plant them in the spring.

Me with my new classical guitar from Brian and the kids! I played guitar a little before I got married, but not much. I really want to learn fingerpicking style, so I’m excited to get started on that!

The kids and I. Brianna loves the piano, as well as Silas, and Silas also loves the ukulele. I’ve given him one uke lesson so far, and it was about how to play the C chord.

I got some other awesome gifts from family, which I also really love!

    Happy New Year!

  2. date night

    March 8, 2010 by sholdren

One thing Brian and I never do, that a lot of parents with young kids do, is occasionally go out on dates together! So, we decided to start. We’re gonna try to go out once a month. Any more than that is difficult because we don’t have any babysitters close by.

About a week ago, we dropped the kids off at Brian’s parents’ house and went out to a restaurant called Jake’s. It was a very nice place!

Brian’s BBQ chicken burger and fries. The fries were incredible!

    Me

My Philly steak with portabello mushroom ciabatta wrap with chipotle ranch sauce. It was excellent!

Brianna sleeping on Grandma’s lap. She was like this when we got back from our date.

Brianna ate almost a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger while we were gone. No wonder she was snoozing!

  3. Opa Hoyer

    October 1, 2009 by sholdren

Helmut Hoyer, my paternal grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the age of 88. He was a very special person, and lived a very interesting life. He was born in Lithuania, and immigrated to Canada. He used to tell us all kinds of stories about when he was in the German army. He was a neat person. I wish you all could have met him.

We are sad that he is gone, but we are happy for him because we know that he is in a better place and we will see him again one day.

The funeral will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 in Edmonton, Alberta. Click here to see the Legacy.com guestbook for Opa.

Here are a couple older pictures of Opa:

Love you, Opa! I’ll miss you.

  4. spectacular spring

    March 20, 2009 by sholdren

Today is the First Day of Spring!

Did you notice Google’s title image today?

I thought it was so cute! These images are taken from the book “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, which I enjoy reading to Silas often. I especially love the part where the caterpillar eats through the fruit, and then through all the random food items such a piece of chocolate cake, a pickle and a slice of salami.

In honor of spring, I will now post a few recent pictures:

Brianna wearing her new spring bonnet from Omsie!

I think the bonnet looks so cute from the side.

Silas relaxing in a cloud of pillows today.

Brian with his two offspring! We are so excited about the warm spring weather, and are looking forward to all the fun outdoor activities we can do this year!
